Laboratory of cell biophotonics

Head:

Doc. Alžbeta Marček Chorvátová, PhD.

Scope of the Laboratory:

The lab analyses living cells at nanoscale level using latest biophotonic methods. Our aim is to search for best approaches to comprehend functioning of living cells applying advanced microscopy, electrophysiology and nanosecond lifetime spectroscopy techniques.

Research activities and Selected Applications:

  • Principal research interests include study of oxidative metabolic state directly in living cells by means of endogenous fluorescence (distinct flavoproteins and NAD(P)H), investigated using spectrally- and time- (nanosecond) resolved fluorescence.
  • Oxidative metabolic state is correlated with cell morphology recorded by confocal microscopy and with changes in cell membrane potential induced by electrophysiology approaches.
  • Specifically labeled fluorescence probes are also emloyed.
  • Future directions feature application of the gathered knowledge on cell functioning in outlining improved biosensors and nanomachines.
